After Hours: Tiffani Bearup

In these “After Hours” posts, members of the group tell the stories behind the pictures they have posted, and explain what motivates and inspires them. This week we have Tiffani Bearup who posted this image in March for 9am:

Which camera did you use?

I used my Fuji Instax wide lens camera with instant film. I wanted my pictures to look like how I generally feel at this time of morning…a bit blurry, unfocused, and not very sharp. It was hard to choose between the Fuji and the Diana camera, but the instant gratification of self developing film eventually won out.

Do you have any plans for the next 11 months? What do you hope to achieve through the year?

My kids and I just moved to Colorado and I’m hoping to spend the next year getting everyone adjusted to our new home and life here. After the last year which included a months long backpacking trip around South America, a few moves, and being this close to finalizing a divorce, I’m looking forward to creating a nurturing, calm, steady, and dependable existence for us all!

Was this a typical day for you?

I’m hoping so! It’s a new ritual for my new house where I wake up before my kids and start making tea for them and coffee for me. If they wake up they help me make breakfast as well. If they sleep in a bit, then who knows if I’ll stand over them to take their picture?! Heaven knows they’re used to me doing weirder things. Although my daughter did tell me I was a creeper when I showed her my shot of her sleeping for this month.

Why did you choose to post this photo?

I was torn between a photo of my mason jars full of tea…which are adorable, or of my sleeping 9 year old…also adorable. The stuffed penguin–which she aquired a year ago in Ushuaia, Chile and hasn’t let out of her sight since–pushed the voting in favor of my daughter. 9 is such an interesting age to parent–they are so grown up compared to who they were as babies, but not so grown up that they don’t sleep with stuffed animals still. I always want to remember this kind of innocent magic.

Do you usually shoot at this hour or was this new for you?

I shoot anywhere, anytime, any day. It’s why I have a camera within reach at all times. You just never know when the light will be breathtaking, or a moment will unfold, or something will catch your eye and/or breath.

One final image…adorable out of focus mason jars full of tea, with wee little tea cups waiting for our morning ritual to start!
