After Hours: Adriana Botello

In these “After Hours” posts, members of the group tell the stories behind the pictures they have posted, and explain what motivates and inspires them. This week we have Adriana Bottello who chose this image in September for 3pm:

•Which camera did you use and why?
This image was taken with my Canon 60D. While I’m usually only carrying my iPhone I knew I was “on assignment” to find my 3:00pm shot so I brought along my Canon because of her extra special powers.

•Was this a typical day for you?
Yes. We are usually running errands on the weekends and this Sunday found us at The Home Depot. I can’t remember exactly what we were shopping for but regardless of what it was I always like to take a trip though the garden center just to take a peek at which colors are in bloom. The garden center is also much quieter than the store inside. If you have ever been to this home improvement store on the weekend it can be overwhelming and hectic! It’s nice to escape to the flowers for just a little while.

•Why did you choose to post this photo?
I was first drawn in by the confetti of color in this photo. I also liked the repetition of the yellow as well as the repetition of the hanging pots. There is also that black line that runs directly right down the center that I find interesting. The man in the photo I see as a nice cherry on top. I think it perfectly shows what I’m drawn to while also telling the story of this moment.

•Do you usually shoot at this hour or was this new for you?
I don’t usually shoot at this hour unless we are doing something outside of the norm (at a carnival, on vacation, at a ball game, sight seeing, etc.). Taking photos while shopping is not something I typically do, especially if it’s not with my iPhone. Actually taking out my “big” camera and walking around the store was definitely different for me.

•And a final shot from you? Or maybe a few?
