In these “After Hours” posts, members of the group tell the stories behind the pictures they have posted, and explain what motivates and inspires them. This week we have Lisa MacIntosh who posted this image in February for 8am:
•Which camera did you use, and why?
I used my Canon 5D with my 35mm lens. It’s my go-to camera and lens, always. I keep threatening to load up my Canon AE1 and shoot some film…I’m certain I will eventually.
•Do you have any specific photographic plans for the rest of the year?
Yes!! I’m working on a year long project called Twelve Women. I will be photographing one woman per month throughout this year and unveiling the entire work next year. Choosing twelve women that inspire me was a difficult task…I could have had a much larger list! It was really important for me to have a side project this year, something just for me.
•Was this a typical day for you?
Not really. I’m glad that there will be other opportunities throughout the year to photograph pieces of my day.
•Why did you choose this particular photo to post?
I chose this image because it relates to my mornings, the time leading up to my boy leaving for school, lighting a candle for my mom and placing it in the multi-coloured glass bowl on the window ledge, measuring out dog food for Stirling and Mavi. The wooden spatula was a gift from a friend 25 years ago, she brought it back from Africa and thought I would like it. She was right, it’s always on my counter and is used regularly.
•Do you usually shoot at this hour or was this new for you?
I never shoot this early and honestly, it felt odd shooting this little scene. I have become so accustomed to photographing people that I rarely point my camera in any other direction.
I love this moment in the quiet morning. Lisa is always creating the most beautiful images in her camera, and weather they are her portraits, or as we can see now, a still life, it is magical. xx
Love reading about your morning, Lisa!
Such a quietness here. Beautiful. Can’t wait to see the twelve women!
thanks everyone!!
i love the story behind the photo, lisa.
after hours is my favorite part. It just is. I would have never ever known about the meaning of that candle had I not read this. I also love your 12 women project for this year. I just love your big enormous heart Lisa. I love it so much!
